Ousted ‘Survivor’ castaway never saw it coming – Survivor- msnbc.com

The tribe has blindsided you: Bartender Erik Cardona, 28, was voted out of the newly merged tribe, and became the first jury member and this season’s biggest blindside. “Wow, wow, wow,” he said after being voted out while holding a hidden immunity idol, which he didn’t play because “you can’t defend against something that’s invisible.” His strategizing around camp seemed to freak everyone out, so they got rid of one of Galu’s strongest players instead of picking off one of the weaker former Foa Foas.
We are family: Brett suggested “Aiga,” Samoan for “extended family,” as the new tribe name. In a confessional interview, Erik mocked that, saying, “What’s Samoan for get the hell off my island?” Not sure, but 10 votes with your name on it will suffice.
American idol: Once the tribes merged, Russell went to Laura and promised her the hidden immunity idol. Then he did the same thing to Monica. Then he shared it with John. There were very few people left who haven’t seen Russell’s idol, including Jeff Probst, who received it when Russell played it at Tribal Council before the votes were read. None of the votes were for Russell, but he said, “Everybody knows I have it, I might as well play it.”

We’ve been watching survivor since the first episode and while my enthusiasm for the show has never waned, it’s beginning to now.
There is no doubt that Russell is an exceedingly arrogant guy that people love to hate but where are the players we love to love? You know, the ones with personalities as big as the Islands themselves? The ones you can’t wait to watch each week just to hear how they think and maneouver their way through the game with integrity?
Where are they?
Everyone loves a hero! I am hoping that there might be more than one BIG (and positive) personality with the next Survivor group to balance things out for a refreshing change.
Here’s hoping…

Someone should inform the players that the Samoan language is pure Polynesian- the Samoan “G” is pronounced “ng”. They have named their tribe ah-ing-a, not AYGA.

I actually enjoyed watching last nite’s episode. Erik’s ego got in the way. He was too full of himself. As for Russell, he thinks everyone is a “dumbass”. Well, I don’t agree. The tribe was smart enough to make him feel so insecure that he used his “idol”. There was not one vote for Russell. So who is the “dumbass”, Russell? Me thinks he’s going to get what he deserves. I hope more players start playing this game. There are too many slackers.

I believe it was a great decision because it opens up more possiblilty for foa foa to come back into the picture. Without Erik they have a chance to make new alliances and not have someone boss them around and a guy being shifty. Thats why its good to stay under the radar in this game and not get in anyones hair because if your too outspoken or complainy you will be noticed and could be the one let go. It is almost seems like once the merge happens thats when russell really should have laid low and not shown the immunity idols to the other tribe. It really puts him in a bad spot now that he decided to go ahead and use the idol because now he is vulnerable and people could be gunning for him like they did Erik but, eather way I was happy with the tribes decided. It opens other oppurtunities for the girls and some of the guys.
